Cops Responding to ‘Vicious Dog’ Call Find Happy Snuggle-Nugget Instead

When Texarcana, Texas police responded to calls about a “vicious pit bull” on the loose, they headed to the scene expecting a challenge.
What they found instead was a big, happy, goofy snuggle-nugget that had simply lost his way and just wanted some lovin’!
He whistled for the dog and, to his surprise, the big squishy cuddle-bug came trotting over, tail-wagging, in hopes of scoring some loving attention.
The police department posted details to their Facebook page: “Well, this didn’t go quite like we thought it would.
After we got a vicious dog call this morning, Officer Travis Frost spotted the dog laying on someone’s front porch there.
He whistled at the dog, who then came trotting over to him with his tail wagging.
Travis said they just hung out together and took some pictures until an Animal Control Officer got there.
Travis said that, while you should always be careful around any dog that you don’t know, you shouldn’t automatically assume that all pit bulls are bad dogs.
They might be really loving like this guy was this morning.” Officer Frost hung out and snapped a few photos with the silly dog while waiting for Animal Control to arrive.
Although the friendly pup was microchipped, his registration was not current, so Animal Control officers weren’t able to immediately reunite him with his family.

The 10 Commandments of Dog Training

Learn to communicate with your dog.
Be clear and consistent in the rules you want your dog to follow and make sure everyone in the home follows those same rules.
That means allowing your dog to learn and grow at a pace that’s comfortable and successful and taking your time to advance to tougher behaviors.
Reward your dog’s successes.
Because dogs generally repeat actions that are successful for them, reward-based training is a proven method for teaching the behavior you expect and desire of your dog.
Just be sure your rewards are given in response to good behavior and not used as a bribe to elicit the behavior you want.
Because dogs don’t generalize well, it’s important to have training sessions in a variety of different environments.
One of the most important things to remember when training your dog is to keep it fun!
Make sure you’re having fun, too!
A happy dog that’s having fun will not only learn faster, but will look forward to your next training session together, too.

United Airlines Unveils New Pet Policy, Bans More Than 40 Breeds from Travel

United Airlines has finally unveiled their updated pet travel policy which, in an effort to drastically improve the safety of pets traveling in the airline’s cargo holds, makes several changes, including the ban of more than 40 dog breeds from the service.
Following a series of mishaps that included the death of a family pet and several dogs loaded onto the wrong flights last March, United Airlines suspended their pet transportation service pending a complete review and overhaul of their PetSafeÂź travel program.
Among the changes, United Airlines will no longer allow any pets that are not either an accepted dog or cat breed.
Prior to the changes, the airline accepted all sorts of animals for cargo shipment.
Charles Hobart, a spokesman for United Airlines, told PEOPLE, “
prior to today, we flew all sorts of animals.
That will change moving forward.
The number of connecting flights between the departure and arrival city is also being restricted.
And, finally, the airline will no longer sell or provide travel crates at airport facilities.
Instead, a pet owner is required to pre-purchase an approved travel crate and stress the importance of allowing a pet ample time to become acclimated to the crate prior to travel, to reduce stress and anxiety while flying.
United Airlines is still reviewing their policies regarding pets traveling inside the cabin with their owners and will update those policies as changes are made available.

Helping Your Pet Adjust to a New Home

When you move, it can be a stressful situation.
All of the shuffling about and changing of the locations can breed excitement and uncertainty.
Especially for your dog!
For example, make sure that you keep things consistent by keeping their same bowl, bed and toys in similar spots in the new house.
It’s also handy, before the move, to put out some boxes and bags to let your dog get used to them.
Then, when moving day has actually arrived, put your pooch in a safe space to ensure they don’t run out the door.
If needed, keep them crated or have them spend the day at a friends house.
There are tons more things you can do to ensure your best pal is safe and calm during a move.
The moving experts over at HireAHelper came up with a complete list of tips to help your pet adjust during a move.
If you follow them you are sure to have a smooth and successful relocation!
